The Story:
Kenya offers consistently great coffee from
a country recently in political upheaval and general disarray.
The Kenyan coffee business is reputed for it's auction system
of grading and selling coffee by small lots. AA is the designation
for the largest beans, not necessarily the best beans. The
best Kenya coffees are specific auction lots sold to the
highest bidder for high prices. Small farmers can be rewarded
for growing great coffee.
Coffee from Kenya is most frequently characterized
as having a red wine taste profile, which refers to the
fruity acid taste structure of the bean - it is not for
people who do not like acidity in coffee. In addition to
wine, a great Kenya coffee will also sport berry tastes
- specifically black currant and blueberry.
