The Story
Moon Monkey began in 2006. Shannon was a customer at a local independant
shop and was intriqued by how coffee was roasted. She began to purchase
green coffee beans from the owner and roast her own coffee in a
popcorn popper. One small decision led to another, and the Moon
Monkey Coffee Company was born.
The building that now houses Moon Monkey Coffee Company is a turn
of the century Victorian home. Beans are roasted in the basement,
while the second floor is often littered with acoustic guitars and
college students.
Future plans include possibly opening a barista school and continuing
to support artists with great coffee and a relaxing atmosphere.

Passions
Moon Monkey has many passions. On the surface, it's the fact that
they roast and sell only certified Fair Trade and Organic coffee,
which empowers the growers by giving them a sustainable wage for
the coffee, ensures fair labor practices and protects the environment.
On a deeper level the passion of Moon Monkey is more about connections
and the process - from toils of the farmer straining to the survive
to the roaster transforming the bean to the artist being inspired
in a moment of reflection over a cup of coffee. It's all there together
in the cup.
Quote
"I'm a coffee roaster that believes in the environment and
connections that take place over an extraordinary coffee. Coffee
is cause-related for me...'the cause of mankind' from the farmer
to the soul of the man who connects with others over coffee in all
kinds of environments." - Shannon LaFrance
Trivia
The "Moon Monkey" name is simply a play on words from
another famous shop.
Through Shannon's other job working for a Christian radio station,
Moon Monkey has become a favorite of many in the Christian music
industry, including Jon Foreman of Switchfoot, Toby Mac, December
Radio, Remedy Drive, Jars of Clay and Relient K.
