The Story
When he went to Costa Rica as an exchange student in 1978, Danny
fell in love with the people and the place. He picked his first
coffee beans in the mountains near the Poás Volcano.
After grad school and an unfulfilling 10 years in corporate America,
Danny bought a roaster and installed it in his basement; then he
set up a packaging operation in his living room. He slowly grew
a wholesale coffee business from there, adding one customer at a
time.
Today, The Roasterie imports coffee from 17 different countries
and is now housed in a 1930s building on the west side of Kansas
City.

Passions
Quality, freshness, education, and supporting the world's small,
specialty farmers and their communities.
Danny has been on over 100 trips to growing regions in order to
develop relationships with growers. By developing these direct relationships,
they are able to have first dibs on the best beans. In return, the
send money back to growing regions to build preschools, day care
centers, community centers and dental clinics.
